Hotels in Nerja

The picturesque coastal town of Nerja is situated 50 kilometres east of Malaga on a stretch of coastline that has been renamed the ‘Costa Tropical’, which speaks for itself really. With a wonderful climate, palm-tree fringed roads, a rocky coastline harbouring hidden coves and bays and a gorgeous mountainous backdrop, the ‘Costa Paradise’ could also have sufficed. Nerja sits at the heart of all this beauty, providing excellent accessibility from both Malaga and Granada airport, and boasting a beautiful old town centre, exceptional commercial areas, stunning beaches and the ‘Balcon de Europa’ or ‘Balcony of Europe’ – a breathtaking promontory that juts out into the Mediterranean and provides jaw-dropping panoramic views.

There are approximately 16 kilometres of beaches stretched before Nerja, home to a wide range of water sports and lined by a wide and vibrant promenade, which in turn is home to a fine selection of chiringuitos that specialise in local seafood dishes. In the centre of town some of the main sights include the baroque Church of El Salvador and the beautiful Gardens of Capistrano Playa. Nearby, the Nerja Caves are an extremely popular attraction and Spain’s third most-visited sight each year. Over 20,000 years old and adorned with ancient cave paintings and other archaeological delights, the caves’ endless appeal is obvious. Each summer, there is a Cave Festival in one of the caves that has been turned into a concert hall; the acoustics are, needless to say, amazing.

Popular with British, Irish, Spanish and Scandinavian tourists, Nerja has a range of attractions that will appeal to all ages and nationalities. Its cosmopolitan makeup ensures it has a friendly atmosphere all year round and is a great place for a family holiday or a romantic break in the sun.
